Why Should You Eat Organic Food?

If you are one of those people who think that the health benefits of organic food are overrated, think again. One of the main reasons of this is because Organic food it is not covered in a variety of chemicals. A non-organic apple can have up to thirty chemicals on its skin even after you wash it. On the inside non-organic foods typically have more water than they do vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants than organic food products. Plants have natural defenses against infestations in the form of phenolic compounds.

Even if you purchased processed organic food it is more healthy for you since the manufacturers are banned from using harmful additives like hydrogenated fat, MSG and artificial flavorings and colorings.
Once you try organic food you will notice that it has a much better taste that conventional food. You will get a peach that tastes like a true peach, apples that actually have the crisp, cool apple taste and beef or chicken that has a truly different flavor from conventional foods.

While you may have to pay a little for organic food as a supermarket it is actually more expensive to purchase conventional food. It costs millions of dollars every year to remove chemicals from drinking water that often results in pesticides from farming and farming crises can cost up to billions of dollars. Both of these are paid for and supported through your tax dollars, so in the long run you are paying a lot more for conventional food than organic food.

There are strict animal welfare standards when it comes to organic food. Animal have to be given access to fields and be fed mainly on natural food such as clover and herb-rich grass, just like they would if they were living in the wild. They are given more housing space and comfortable bedding, when ill they are given herbal or homeopathic drugs.

People who want to lead a healthy life should switch to organic food. Although organic food may be a little bit more expensive compared to those conventionally produced food, the healthy benefits of these organic foods is well worth the few extra dollars that we spend on them. Besides, if you take into consideration the many benefits that one could get out of organic food, the difference in prices would appear to be insignificant.

If you start choosing to purchase organic food then farmers will be encouraged to turn to organic farming methods. Current farming methods can eventually lead to soil erosion, the destruction of ancient hedgerows and the extinction or near extinction of many natural animals, birds and plants. The best way to reverse the decline in wildlife by crop rotation is to switch to organic farming which will also help to keep the soil fertile, there will be no chemical fertilizers and there will be no need for pesticides since different crops are planted together which encourages natural predators.

There has also been an increase in other organic products besides food such as clothing and toiletries. These items used to be very expensive and difficult to find, but now they are becoming available to all. These organic products still have many other benefits than the conventional methods just like organic food.

So I thought I would give you an overview of the entire industry. When we speak of ‘organic’ we are talking about standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping. It generally involves 1. Avoidance of synthetic chemicals in the production of food 2. Growing food on Farmlands that have been free of chemical for at least three years 3. In farms where both organic and non-organic are grown there must be strict separation. 4. Strict on site inspections and meticulous record keeping. In the U.S there are three levels of “organicity”. If all of the ingredients are 100% organically grown then you can use the label “100% organic” If the ingredients are 95% organically grown then you can use the label “organic” If 70% of the products of an item are grown organically then you can use the label “made with organic ingredients”Do […]
