LASIK Eye Surgery - See The World More Clearly

Tip! This page is dedicated to providing you with the knowledge you need when considering laser eye surgery. This procedure can be a bit intimidating for people and hopefully you will feel much more comfortable about it once you have read this.

LASIK eye surgery is a medical procedure using a laser on the eye of a patient who has eyesight problems. LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileuses. LASIK can be used to improve the eyesight of patients who are far-sighted, near-sighted or have an astigmatism. After LASIK surgery has been performed, patients with these types of eyesight problems should not have to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses.

LASIK is one of the most common surgical procedures performed by an eye surgeon nowadays. It has become very popular because of it's pain-free operation and because of its more or less instantaneous results. This is the major advantage that LASIK has over other surgical procedures to correct imperfect vision. After a couple of days rest you will soon see a definite improvement in your eyesight.

Tip! LASIK or Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis is the latest development in this field and is highly popular. In the year 2005, most of the eye surgery procedures were performed using this technique.

The surgical procedure itself is quick and virtually painless, and is performed under local anaesthetic. It consists of the eye surgeon cutting a hinged flap in the cornea which is then folded back to expose the lens of the eye. A laser from an instrument called a 'microkeratome' is used to vaporize aberrations and reshape the cornea so that the image focuses on the correct part of the retina, therefore improving the vision. The hinged flap in the cornea is then folded back into place for healing. You will see two main types of LASIK surgery being advertised. Traditional LASIK surgery and Wavefront LASIK surgery. Conventional LASIK surgery corrects the focusing power of the eye by remodelling the shape of the lens with the aid of laser.

Wavefront LASIK is a variation of the traditional procedure and produces a spatially varying correction based on readings from a wavefront sensor. A wavefront sensor measures the eye itself by detecting any aberrations on the cornea. It achieves this by sending a weak laser source into the eye, and by measuring and processing the reflection off the retina. The Wavefront laser procedure is carried out using computer aided equipment and doctors have reported improved eyesight results from Wavefront over traditional LASIK surgery.

Tip! Lasik eye surgery is a surgical procedure, but one can essentially come and go from the hospital before and after the procedure with little to no assistance. The procedure takes place while the patient is conscious although sometimes a mild sedative is given to the patient upon advice of the surgeon.

Although beneficial to thousands of patients, as is usually the case there can also be some disadvantages to LASIK eye surgery. Firstly, it can be an expensive treatment and prices can vary from area to area and from doctor to doctor. Secondly, as in all surgical procedures, there can be post-surgery complications. Common complications include patients developing glare and halos and possibly double vision which can affect night time vision capability. Others develop severe dry eye syndrome which may need to be treated with drops or cream for the rest of your life. However, complications in LASIK surgery are rare and the vast majority of patients benefit from almost perfect vision without eyeglasses or contacts after surgery.

Tip! The way Lasik eye surgery works is relatively simple, fast and with minimal pain. And fortunately, the price of lasik eye surgery is becoming more affordable.

If you decide to proceed with LASIK surgery you should carefully research the subject to find out as much as possible about the procedure. You should also research the eye surgeons that perform the surgery and if possible act on personal referral. Keep in mind that when pricing the surgery that not all advertisements for LASIK quote the full and final price and many have add-on costs. Finally, before proceeding with the surgery, make sure to have a thorough conversation with your eye surgeon so that you are fully aware of all the benefits and risks.

A Healthy Eye Is A Beautiful Eye

To ensure your eyes remain healthy and beautiful, you may need to look more closely at the value of an annual exam.Regular eye exams are not just about obtaining optimal vision through the right eyeglass or contact prescription but can also help detect early warning signs of disease that can affect your eye health and general health.Since an eye examination can help detect many health problems, eye care practitioners often work in conjunction with internists and general practitioners to help empower individuals on their health and wellness journey. Many doctors offer new technology, such as digital retinal eye scans, that are quick and comfortable and produce a computerized picture of blood vessels in action. This new technology effectively provides information on eye health and certain systemic health conditions, such as diabetes and glaucoma. With more than 50 million "prediabetics," 65 million hypertensives and 5 to 10 million Americans with high pressure in the eyes, a regular eye exam is important for your eye and overall health.Taking the following steps, according to the experts at LensCrafters, can help keep your eyes healthy:1. Access To Eye Care Is Important To Your Family

When children are young they are unable to describe how wel they can see things, particularly in the early learning stages and it is virtually impossible for parent to recognize a visual disability in the early stages thus impairing the child's development.
Ensuring that your family has regular access to eye care, is perhaps one of the most important things for a family0s health. Without proper eye care, children are too often forced to enter school with untreated sight deficiencies, and in turn do not get the education they deserve. Access to eye care is equally important for adults. Even if you need glasses or contacts, allowing your eyes to go unchecked for long can lead to much more serious sight loss.
Choosing An Eye Care Professional
1. To ensure that your family has proper access to eye care, you need to choose an eye care professional that can work with your entire family, regardless of age. Or, some will work with older children, but not with toddlers, who need access to eye care as well. Before you settle on an eye […]
