Cosmetics & Problems Associated With Them - 2

This is part 2 of the article. Please read part 1 before reading this.
Eye Cosmetics:

Mascara and eyebrow pencils contain dyes, alcohol, etc. They may cause allergies or irritation on contact.
Nail Cosmetics:
Nail cosmetics include nail polishes and nail color removers. They contain alcohol and colors (dyes) that may produce different reactions.
Lip Cosmetics:
These include lip-gloss, lipsticks, etc. They contain dyes and other chemicals that may cause allergy.
Skin Cosmetics:
Face creams and other preparations such as body moisturizers can contain dyes, etc. These can cause an allergy or irritation on contact. Lanolin used in many moisturizers can cause allergy.
Astringents:
Astringents are used to remove oil from the face. Most of them contain alcohol and other ingredients such as salicylic acid, etc. Some of these ingredients can irritate sensitive and dry skin.
You may have sensitive skin. Or you may want to use cosmetics that have minimum potential of causing irritation. Here is a brief guide about choosing cosmetics for that.
1. Avoid cosmetics that need solvents for removal. Cosmetics labeled waterproof cannot be washed away with water. They need solvents for removal and that may cause sensitivity. Cosmetics Usage, Advantage And Disadvantage

Cosmetics are more commonly used by females than males; however there are some useful cosmetic applications that men can use in today's world. Cosmetics are required to have ingredient labels that indicate what is contained in the product. It is not specific when it comes to fragrances though, and the manufacturer is not required to list the actual composition of a fragrance. Cosmetics are common culprits. Allergic eyelid dermatitis is more often attributed to cosmetics applied to the fingernails, face, or hair than to cosmetics applied directly to the eyelids.
Cosmetics are not a valid line of acne control, but they can camouflage an acute acne outbreak. One must remember, however, that any kind of topically applied oil-based compound will aggravate acne. Cosmetics are not good for the proper function of the human body. Even natural cosmetics may contain products which are harmful. Cosmetics are an important resource as well. It is necessary for parents to recognize the helpful effects of cosmetology for children who are bothered by their appearance.

Cosmetics & Problems Associated With Them - 1

A cosmetic or skin care product may contain many ingredients. The main ingredient is the vehicle that forms the base of the product. Many other chemicals, dyes, fragrances, natural products are added to make a color cosmetic or a skin care product. Many of these products can cause allergic contact dermatitis or irritant contact dermatitis. Fragrances and preservatives are the most common dermatitis causing agents. Every individual has his/her tendency to be allergic or get irritant contact dermatitis from every material. The material, which is safe for you, may cause a reaction in others.

Though many products are labeled as hypoallergenic, they may cause allergy in many people. Read more about hypoallergenic products here. Terms such as unscented, fragrance-free etc. have no meaning because some fragrance may have been used to mask bad odor of other ingredients. Many natural products carry their own fragrance. Many lavender preparations may have no fragrance, but lavender itself is a fragrance. Natural products also cause allergy, so do chemicals. Most of the essential oils of the lime family are photo toxic. If you use them and walk out in the sun, you will get photo toxic reaction on your skin.
